SCIP DATABASE
The Waste Framework Directive, as amended by Directive (EU) 2018/851, provides (Art. 9, paragraph 1, letter i) that, starting from January 5, 2021, companies supplying articles containing substances of very high concern (SVHC) must submit a SCIP notification concerning all articles placed on the EU market that contain a substance of very high concern included in the Candidate List, at a concentration above 0.1% w/w.
For products placed on the market from this date (January 5, 2021), it is no longer sufficient to communicate the presence of SVHC substances directly to the recipients of the articles (which must still be done) in accordance with Article 33 of the REACH Regulation. The required information must also be entered into the database, in particular:
- Information identifying the article
- The name, concentration range and location of the substance of concern within the article
- Other information on the safe use of the product, particularly regarding its correct disposal
This information must include: - Manufacturers and assemblers based in the EU
- Importers based in the EU
- Economic operators established in the EU and other actors in the supply chain
It is therefore particularly important to have information regarding the presence of SVHC substances in concentrations above 0.1% in articles placed on the market in order to comply with this requirement.
The information to be submitted to the SCIP database must be in IUCLID format. For further information, please visit the ECHA website.
